''Pacific Rim'' is a 2013 American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman. The screenplay is by Travis Beacham and del Toro, with a story by Beacham. The film is set in the 2020s, when Earth is at war with the Kaijus, colossal monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas each controlled by at least two pilots, whose minds are joined by a neural bridge. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaijus. Principal photography began on November 14, 2011 in Toronto and lasted through April 2012. The film was produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was released on July 12, 2013 including releases in 3-D and IMAX 3D, receiving generally positive reviews; the visual effects and action sequences were highly praised. While the film was a box office disappointment in the United States, it was highly successful in other territories. It earned a worldwide total of more than $411 million, including $114 million in China, its largest market, becoming Del Toro's most commercially successful film to date. A sequel with the working title ''Maelstrom'' was announced in 2014, and was scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on August 4, 2017. In September 2015, the sequel was reported to have been "halted indefinitely" however, Del Toro and Universal Pictures confirmed that the sequel has only been delayed and will continue to proceed forward.〔〔 == Plot == In 2013, an interdimensional portal, the Breach, is opened in the Pacific Ocean by extraterrestrials, who send giant monsters called Kaiju to attack cities on the Pacific Rim. To counter the attacks, humanity initiate the Jaeger Program, constructing giant mecha robots which are controlled by two or more pilots, who are mentally linked via “drifting” to carry the heavy psychological load of operating the machines. In 2020, pilots Raleigh and Yancy Becket, take their Jaeger, ''Gipsy Danger'', to rescue a fishing boat from a Kaiju. However, the Kaiju blindsides the Jaegar, ultimately wrecking it and killing Yancy. Raleigh single-handidly pilots ''Gipsy Danger'' to shore after killing the Kaiju, but quits the program, traumatised by Yancy’s death. By 2025, world leaders decide to shut down the Jaeger Program due to the increasing number of Kaiju emerging from the Breach, and opt to construct giant defensive coastal walls instead. Marshall Stacker Pentecost, commander of the Jaegers, plans to launch a final assault on the Breach with a nuclear bomb. He tracks down Raleigh and recruits him back into the program to help with the attack. At the Hong Kong base, Raleigh meets the crews for the remaining Jaegers, and Pentecost’s adopted daughter Mako Mori, who shows great potential as a pilot, but Pentecost refuses to let her drift with Raleigh until convinced otherwise. However, when Raleigh briefly falls out of synch during the drifting process, Mako becomes lost in a memory of a Kaiju’s attack on Tokyo, and nearly activates ''Gipsy Danger''’s energy cannon until the Jaeger is shut down. Pentecost grounds Raleigh and Mako. Meanwhile, scientist Newton Geiszler creates a device that allows him to drift with a Kaiju’s brain, discovering the Kaiju are bioweapons and their creators plot to wipe out humanity. Needing Newton to drift again, Pentecost sends him to find black market dealer Hannibal Chau, who operates within Hong Kong, and to obtain another Kaiju brain. However, Newton’s actions cause two Kaiju to be unleashed on the city. The Jaegers, ''Crimson Typhoon'', ''Cherno Alpha'', and ''Striker Eureka'', are sent to slay the Kaiju, but the first two are destroyed while ''Striker'' is immobilised. Raleigh and Mako come to the rescue, successfully killing both Kaiju. Newton and Hannibal go to retrieve the Kaiju’s brain but discover it is pregnant. The infant eats Hannibal but is strangled by its own umbilical cord, allowing Newton and his partner Hermann Gottlieb to drift together, discovering only the Kaiju can travel through the Breach. Pentecost, who reveals to Raleigh he is terminally ill due to piloting a nuclear-powered first generation Jaeger, decides to push the plan ahead. Pentecost and Chuck Hansen pilot ''Striker'' and accompany ''Gipsy Danger'' to the Breach, encountering three Kaiju, including the biggest they have seen. Both Jaegers are severly damaged in the battle, but Pentecost and Chuck detonate the nuclear warhead to clear the way for ''Gipsy Danger'', which will serve as an improvised bomb since it is powered by a nuclear reactor. ''Gipsy Danger'' kills the surviving Kaiju and rides its body through the Breach into the alien dimension. With their oxygen levels dropping, Raleigh ejects Mako’s escape pod and manually overloads the Jaeger’s reactor before escaping himself. The Jaeger explodes, destroying the aliens and sealing the Breach. Raleigh and Mako surface in the Pacific Ocean and embrace for their victory. In a mid-credits scene, Hannibal is revealed to have survived and cuts his way out of the dead infant Kaiju. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Pacific Rim (film)」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
